The Kent County Sheriff's Office investigates all offenses reported within the boundaries of Kent County. Felony cases are filed with the 39th District Attorney's Office and are adjudicated within the 39th District Court of Kent County.
Sheriff William Scogin is the lead investigator on all felony cases reported to the Kent County Sheriff's Office. Texas Rangers (Co. C) are available to assist if the need arises as well as deputies of the Kent County Sheriff's Office.
Misdemeanor cases are filed with the County Attorney of Kent County. Misdemeanor cases are usually assigned to the deputy who first reported the offense but at times may be investigated by the Sheriff. This allows the deputies to gain valuable experience in the investigative process.
