The Kent County Sheriff's Office Communications Division is operated 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. In 2007, the Sheriff's Office began 24-hour dispatching to better serve the citizens of Kent County. The Communications Division is responsible for answering 9-1-1 calls, general telephone inquiries, dispatching deputies to calls for service and dispatching for the Kent County Volunteer Fire Department and the Kent County Emergency Medical Services. The Communication Division also dispatches for the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Department of Wildlife.
The Communications Division is staffed with (3) full-time Communication Operators and (4) part-time personnel. The Sheriff's Office is currently upgrading all of its communication equipment with Homeland Security grants awarded to Kent County. This will allow Communication Officers to be compatible with surrounding agencies allowing us to communicate with other agencies if a major disaster occurred here in Kent County.
